3 Cheers for Alex Jones

If you don’t know who Alex Jones is, he’s what medical professionals would call “a nut job.” He’s a loon. He promotes conspiracy theories that people with tin foil hats think go too far.

Among other conspiracy theories, he is a 9/11 truther, thinks the Sandy Hook massacre was a false flag operation to push gun control (and maybe never even happened), promoted the pizzagate conspiracy that a DC pizzeria secretly operated a child sex ring with Hillary Clinton, believes the moon landings were faked, that a shadowy global organization (Illuminati?) secretly run things, and most famously, that the Pentagon is turning frogs gay. He has threatened to kill agents of the CIA, NSA, FBI, FEMA, or any other tentacle of the New World Oder that might try to stop him from telling the “truth.” Look it up. He really said those things.

Obviously that is all horrible. Some of those conspiracy theories cause mental anguish to victims and families of victims of events he says never took place or were actually carried out by our own government. Imagine being a parent of a young child murdered at Sandy Hook, and being told it never happened. Others, like peddling the Pizzagate hoax, has led to direct physical danger as one man with a gun tried to free the child sex slaves and grew angry when the pizzeria wouldn’t release children they didn’t have. Alex Jones is scum, even more so if he knows he is telling lies as his lawyer claims.

The world would be a much better place if Alex Jones did not spread his brand of lunacy.

But, the fact that he is able to say these crazy things, that there are no government agents (neither American nor illuminati) banging down his door to arrest him, is actually a wonderful thing. It is easy to lose track of how special and rare it is to live in a society where people are free to speak their minds, no matter how outlandish it is. In most countries throughout history, the government has regulated and controlled what people are allowed to say.

We should all condemn Alex Jones and his vile filth. But the fact that he can say these reprehensible lies without government interference is proof that we are free. And that is something worth celebrating.
